King Tappa is an international reggae artist, songwriter, and performer based in Florida whose career has been shaped by a deep-rooted passion for reggae music and years of experience on stages both in the United States and abroad.
His musical journey began behind the turntables as DJ Tappa, when he established Power Sound and built his reputation performing throughout the New York/New Jersey tri-state area and internationally. One of the early highlights of his DJ career was performing alongside the legendary Stone Love at Da Culture Lounge in Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Inspired by reggae greats including Steel Pulse, Beres Hammond, Culture, Gregory Isaacs, and Capleton, King Tappa eventually transitioned from DJing to writing and performing his own music. That evolution led to the release of his debut album, When I Work, in 2007 and marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career as a recording artist.
King Tappa returned with his sophomore album, Feeling the Vibes, in July 2019, showcasing his development as both a vocalist and performer. The project gained attention in the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean and received media coverage from outlets including the Jamaica Observer, The Star, and The Gleaner. The music video for the album's title track, “Feeling the Vibes,” premiered on Reggaeville, where the project was also recognized among the platform's 2019 album releases.
His third studio album, 9 to 5, arrived in September 2022. The nine-track project demonstrates King Tappa's versatility, moving from upbeat reggae selections such as “Are You Feeling It” and “Reggae Music” to socially conscious songs including “Freedom” and “Children Are the Future.” Across the project, his distinctive vocals, songwriting, and passion for reggae remain at the forefront.
A prolific songwriter, King Tappa has written more than 100 songs and recorded numerous dubplates and jingles for sound systems around the world. His career has also taken him to stages throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Africa, including a memorable performance in Nairobi, Kenya.
TOURING & LIVE PERFORMANCES
King Tappa continued expanding his touring footprint throughout 2026. From January through May, he embarked on his “I’m Still Good Tour,” performing across Florida with additional stops in New York and New Jersey.
In July 2026, he took his music to the West Coast for a multi-city tour featuring performances in San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle, further expanding his presence across the U.S. reggae market.
His growing festival résumé includes performances at the One Love Festival in New Jersey, Lion Heart Festival in Hammonton, New Jersey, and the Hudson Valley Caribbean Festival in New York, along with appearances at festivals and live events throughout Florida and beyond.
Whether performing with a full band, connecting with audiences through an intimate set, or commanding a festival stage, King Tappa brings an energetic and authentic performance rooted in reggae's tradition while maintaining a sound and identity distinctly his own.
Beyond music, King Tappa is committed to giving back. He serves as president of Project Book Bag, an initiative dedicated to supporting students in Dominica through annual contributions of school supplies and educational resources.
With an expanding catalog, extensive live-performance experience, and a growing touring presence across the United States and internationally, King Tappa continues to bring his music to new audiences while remaining grounded in the culture, message, and spirit of reggae.
